When the Oustalet's Chameleon is Shedding

21/12/2024

The shedding process in chameleons may last from a couple of hours to several days, depending on the health state of the chameleon. Chameleons are classified as dry shedders, meaning that once the outer layer of old keratin is separated from the new skin prepared underneath, a gas layer separates them, and the old skin falls off either in pieces or as one big piece. During this time, chameleons might refuse food and become a bit nervous, moving around more frequently. They may help themselves shed the old skin using their mouths or extremities, and sometimes they even eat the exuviae.
