The Vosseler's Blade Horned Chameleon - Kinyongia vosseleri
Vosseler's chameleon is relatively small, often reaching up to 15-20 cm (approximately 6-8 inches) in total length.
They exhibit a variety of colors, typically shades of green or brown, with possible patterns depending on their habitat and mood. Their ability to change color helps with camouflage and communication.
Range: Tanzania, Eastern Arc Mountains, endemic to East Usambaras.
Environment: These chameleons prefer humid montane wooded areas where they climb quite high into the canopies.
Reproduction: Kinyongia vosseleri is oviparous, females lay !5-22 eggs.
Threats: Habitat loss due to deforestation and agricultural expansion poses significant threats to Vosseler's chameleon. Preservation of their natural habitats is crucial for the survival of this species, and efforts to raise awareness about the importance of forest conservation in Tanzania are ongoing. It is relatvely well protected in the Amani Natural Reserve.
