The Fashionable Chameleons: Red Lipstick and Red Nail Polish

Chameleons are well known to be masters of colours. 

While the colour of the nails is usually white, yellow or brownish and can not be changed, the lips undergo changes of the colour similar to the neighbouring skin areas as a rule.

There are however uniquely bright red colourations:

• The bright red nails of Trioceros quadricornis gracilior

   (there is merely a specific function of it, just a random coloration probably) 

• Red lips colorations, found e.g. in Trioceros deremensis in mating mood and in one yet undescribed
  Kinyongia sp., close to K. tavetana. At least in T. deremensis, the redness seems to be associated with readiness to mate.
