The Curse of Captive Chameleons: The Respiratory Infection

Many captive chameleons die in terrible pain due to respiratory infections. The primary cause is improper captive parameters, specifically a combination of:
high humidity,
high temperatures, and
low ventilation.
If you mist or fog during the daytime with heat lamps on, this can lead to severe health issues.
To prevent respiratory infections, follow these guidelines:
Never mist or fog during the daytime.
If you use a fogger, do so at temperatures below 18°C (65°F) and primarily at night.
Ensure proper air exchange by using well-ventilated cages.
Implementing these practices can significantly reduce the risk of respiratory infections in chameleons.
