Pair Bonding In Chameleons

Chameleons do not tend to build permanent pairs. First, they mostly live too shortly so that it lack sense. Second, they tend to disperse in the environment homogeneously to utilize the natural resources.
In the mating period, usually induced by some climatic change (e.g. beginning of a rain season), you can observe a fantastic spectacle: the male and female spend time together, they stay close to each other, they sleep together... until the female gets gravid. Then she changes the tolerant behavior and chases the male back away...
I was privileged to see such behavior many times, now in Socotra in Chamaeleo monachus...
