Merry Xmas, Mighty Yemen Chameleons!
Let us wish a Happy Christmas to the Yemen Chameleons! It has been around 40 years since the first offspring of Yemen Chameleons were born in captivity, and since then, this species has established itself in human care to the extent that they are now a regular pet worldwide. They have unfortunately been introduced by humans to other areas where they have become feral and mostly invasive, such as Florida, California, Mexico, Hawaii, Taiwan, and the Canaries, with reports of their presence extending to many other countries too.
In captivity, they have become so popular and cheap that they are an easy purchase for absolute beginners, many of whom do not possess adequate knowledge or financial resources to care for them properly. This often leads to malnutrition, diseases, and deformities due to metabolic bone disease (MBD), which can solely be traced back to inadequate care, often crossing the line into what is legally defined as animal torture. They do not deserve such treatment!
All that they need in captivity, as one of the hardiest chameleons, is readily available and easy to provide. Please help me and the Yemen Chameleons live happy, long, healthy, and stress-free lives in human care. We enslaved them, so we are responsible for their wellness! Just as a reminder: the dry period of the wintertime leads to very low temperatures at nighttime and only mild temperatures during the day. Do not overheat the Yemen Chameleons, and if they are cold and lethargic during the winter months, be aware that this is natural for them; they rest and relax as they prepare for the next active season.
However, the summer season is also not excessively hot! They live in shaded areas, and due to the rainy season lasting from April to September, which brings substantial precipitation and clouds, the temperatures during the day are also mild. The highest nighttime temperatures they encounter do not exceed 18 degrees Celsius.
Care for them with love, respect, and responsibility so that they can feel every day as superb as we do on the holy Christmas Eve!
