Archaius tigris, Jewel of the Seychelles

27/01/2025

Archaius tigris, commonly known as the tiger chameleon, is a relatively small chameleon species, measuring approximately 16 cm (6.3 in) in length. Its coloration ranges from subtle light-grey to vibrant yellow-orange, and it can also appear in shades of green or dark brown, often adorned with scattered black spots. A notable characteristic of this chameleon is the pointed projection on its chin, which can measure up to 3 millimeters in length, surrounded by a fringe of smaller spiky features along the underside.Endemic to the Seychelles, Archaius tigris inhabits the islands of Mahé, Silhouette, and Praslin, preferring primary tropical forests, diverse secondary forests, and upland gardens. It seems, however that Archaius seychellensis is also valid species.
